My cat Pierre is dying
Aug. 6th, 2003 05:14 pmActually, to call him my cat is a misnomer. I am his person, since he chose me, over 16 years ago I should add. And for those of you that don't know him that well, his full name is Robespierre. Not for the scarry guy, but for the cartoon cat in an old cartoon movie about cats called Gay Purree, with the voices of Judy Garland, Robert Goulet and Red Butons (as Robespierre).
He purrs when I pet him and is drinking some water, but he has been going blind for some time and now can't walk and has a hard time lifting his head or moving around. I don't think he will last another day, though I was sure he wasn't going to make to today. I will be taking his body up to Cat's Cradle and burying him there with Andy and Catherine so that he will be buried back in Santa Cruz where he was born.

I met him... such a sweet cat. He will be well and spry again soon, in the world that cats go to (and can see from here, it seems) soon... May FReyja take him gently...

Date: 2003-08-07 12:58 am (UTC)He's had quite a long life. Sometimes, way back when, I didn't think he would last out the year, he was so ratty... but the old guy had lots of vigor, and lots of love to draw strenght from.
It's never easy to say goodbye. I hope he's made his own peace with it.

Date: 2003-08-07 01:11 am (UTC)I'm very sorry!
I'm glad I got to see him last time we were down.
Take comfort in the long and rewarding life that you (and your family) have given him. It is hard to watch that ninth life come to a close. May all of you accept it easily and gracefully, most especially Pierre.
Please accept my long, consoling, and understanding hug. His purr will live on in the loving eye of your memory.

Date: 2003-08-07 06:29 pm (UTC)So the naming from Gay Purr-ee is nearly complete. I had Mewsette, Scott had Jaune Tom, you had Robespierre... now all we need is Madame Rubenchat and Meowrice! :)
Still... poor kitty. :\
