So, being without a job, I am getting unemployment. I get $370 per week, which really doesn't cut it, but is better than nothing. I started taking some contract work, which grosses me $270 in one week (I worked less than two days), and so the unemployment folks decide in their infinite wisdom that I don't get anything for that week.

If I had not taken the contract job, I would have gotten more money, but I mistakenly though that the EDD would just give me the difference. But no. Next week though, there will be a phone interview, and I will point out the quandary they have placed me in. And hopefully a job will come along soon.

Scios and other stuff

Hey Troy! Thanks for commenting in my journal! My ears really perked up when I saw you!

As for Scios - beau hasn't called or interviewed anyone. If it were up to me, I'd just hire you. *hug*

I'm working this weekend, but if y'all are up for some company...

Thanks. Any chance that is going to change in the near future? I would love to work there with you.

I sincerely hope so. We really do need someone. I've actually reviewed your resume with Beau and while he did comment that you had a number of skills he's looking for, he seemed concerned that there are things you won't do here that you've done in the past (such as telephony). I told him that I doubted that would make a difference since we're often called on to do things that others might do if there staffing were up to date or because we come into a job with a skillset that someone says "Oh! We've been needing someone to take this over. It's yours now.". So we'll see...I'll put the bug back in his ear. You have the advantage that I know and he takes that into consideration over candidated whom nobody knows.

I have an even more updated (read detail) resume that a recruiter had me create with info on what versions of OS' and software (especially enterprise packages) I've worked with and migrations and such. The phone stuff really is one of thise thing that I just fell into cause nobody else would/could. But with the VOIP revolution becoming more prevalent, telephone stuff is more and more falling into the realm of the IT departments everywhere.

Hey, I just had an idea. If you want, I could drop by and see you at work. Just a friendly visit. We could have lunch. Then I could see the place. If I got to say hi to the other folks in the department, it might get me, as a real person with a face, in in their minds. Plus we get to have lunch. Let me know if you have time for lunch sometime soon.

Talked to Beau and you're more than welcome to come up for lunch!

We have a cafeteria here with all kinds of good food!

Oh boy, do I understand where you are right now. I always hated the numbers game, but that's our reality. Do ask the about their math... I think I recall Fenrus getting the difference in a similar situation. I may be totally wrong, though.

Hang in there.

Hey, we are going to be down in your neck of the woods this weekend. Any chance that we could drop by and say hi, maybe commiserate?

BTW, how is Fenrus doing on the MCSE tests? Any job prospects? I know Michael is almost (perhaps finally) done.

We'll be home Friday, I believe. However, if you come by Saturday before 3, you'll stumble into a short Cthulu game. Our group is getting together at 9 a.m., gaming 'til around 3, then heading up to Concord for a friend's birthday party. So if you'll be around early Saturday, you'd better stop by!!! We won't be back Sunday 'til late afternoon/early evening. Do you have our phone numbers?

Fenrus' tests are still in progress. The school is going out of business (can you believe it?) so they're more concerned with their assets than their students. Fortunately, he finished all his classes last month. No *real* job prospects.

I don't think you get the difference (yes, it sucks, and yes, you should still ask about it), but I think that what it does is extend the number of weeks you are eligible. So basically, this week "doesn't count." Don't know though--it's been years since I've played this one. And you have discovered why so many people do not report this sort of income unless forced. Stupid system.

you could just forget to inform them of such a trivial thing...considering that what they are paying you is, in fact, your own money. For fun, add up all the unemployment insurance you and your employer have deducted from your potential earnings over the decades, then subtract the amount of u.i. payments you have actually received over the same period. doesn't add up, does it. i wonder what they do with the rest. imagine the interest you could have earned if you had put that money instead in bonds or other relatively safe investments.

unemployment insurance, another reason why america just pisses me off.
