I’m Boycotting the Live 105 Morning Music Co-op
Here is why. I’m tired of the conservative, Bush apologizing slant of the show. It has only been on for three months and already it is apparent the hosts are more interested in bashing on anyone who doesn’t agree with their political beliefs than they are in playing music or finding out why people like living in the Bay Area. This morning was the last straw for me. The guest this morning was the “Chronicle’s Conservative Columnist Debra Saunders” who was just more of the same that I could hear on Fox news, KNBR, or any other conservative talk radio show. If I wanted talk radio, I would switch to AM and listen to Air America Radio.
Starting in January, with the Howard Stern going to satellite, Live 105 hired three new people to host their ‘Morning Music Co-op” which wouldn’t have been bad. The plan was to play more music, get the listeners involved, and let them help to guide the direction of the show. I was never that much into Howard Stern, so I frequently switched stations in the morning anyway. They hired three new hosts, and none of them are from the Bay Area, and being new to the area they have no idea what they are talking about. And Greg Gory, the MMC (Morning Music Co-op) producer, has been a constantly annoying GOP apologist (despite daily allegations of corruption, lies, and other political scandals, which they never talk about). He constantly whines about how he always gets teased for his political beliefs and wearing his Bush political tie. I wouldn’t know what kind of tie he wears or his political ideology if he didn’t constantly harp on it. Woody, the lead of the three hosts for the show, regularly makes comments about political issues he has no knowledge of, and complains about the liberal bias in California and the Bay Area. He obviously isn’t from California, his ignorance is sometimes astounding, and I really wonder why he chose to come here if he is so ideologically opposed to the majority opinion? Tony and Ravey mostly play silent when Woody goes off on a political rant, or play along far too often.
On the Live 105 site, the blurb for the show with Debra Saunders as guest goes like this:
"San Francisco is known as the open-minded bastion of the USA. But, if we're gonna be honest about it, the Bay Area tends to be not so open-minded when it comes to right wing conservatism. Well, be that as it may, we here at LIVE 105's Morning Music Co-OP are huge fans of a good heated political debate with view points ranging from the wack out left (remember the teacher that had chained himself to that park bench) to the ultra conservative (please stand up Mr. Gory). To prove that we want to present a fair and balanced view on politics we invited San Francisco Chronicle Conservative Op-Ed Writer Debra Saunders to the show to give her opinions on the news of the day."
I don’t see the description as balanced, and I didn’t hear anything balanced about the topic, and despite Woody’s talk about when he has liberals on show, which is never, he spent the whole time bashing on anyone with more progressive opinions than he or Debra Saunders or Greg Gory had. Woody and Greg Gory play the typical conservative game of dismissing anything that don’t like or don’t want to admit is inconsistent about their opinions.
So, I will start listening to Air America in the morning or playing my own music. I am posting this on my Livejournal as well, and hope that others will see this and act appropriately.
Sincerely,
Michael Troy McKee
