Anyone interested in a small job
Nov. 20th, 2003 10:51 pmI know someone who needs a small job done. I am not much of a programmer, so I will be declining, but I would like to point him to a friend if I can. Here is a brief description of the project:
So, the workflow is like this: The accountant has a found set of records in FileMaker that he wants to batch to PCCharge Pro for authorization. A conduit constructed in VB, XML, C++, or a combination of any of these (and more -- see link above) takes the data from FileMaker sends it to PCCharge Pro. PCCharge Pro tries to charge the credit cards for the given amount, and sends the results of the transaction back to FileMaker, to the proper records.
If you think you would like to try this, let me know. I have been charging $50/hr for work with this client, so the pay rate is pretty good. There is a deadline of Dec. 8th for the project, so I would need to know soon. And more work could come out of this too.

Date: 2003-11-21 08:00 am (UTC)...but I know I need training. Though I've coded in VB to automate tasks for Excel spreadsheets and I had some training in C++ back in college, I'm probably rusty. Though I've got several dusty books on HTML, C++, Java & JavaScript, and MS Visual Basic 6, I've yet to really read them. In spite of having some exp with Access (and testing as a skilled user) and some exp with odd database software built for micro and mainframe systems, I feel I'm still a database newbie.
Oh heck! I've just got to get myself back into some kind of structured learning program. Stop making excuses and wallowing in apathy. I've yet to enjoy work more than when I was programming--the excitement of solving complicated puzzles. And it is very encouraging to think that I could be earning $50/hr after a couple months of investment. Thanks for holding up a carrot for me, Troy!
