Well, I got a job finally
Nov. 26th, 2003 03:31 pmIt was a tough decision. I had two firms wanting me to come and do CAD and IT management/administration. One is for a larger firm based out of LA doing work at the SJ airport. The other is a small firm in SF doing work mostly for architects and other small companies.
The issue is that neither wanted to hire me on full time exactly. The LA firm want to hire me for 200 hours of training and consulting, which might go full time if they get a second contract as part of the SJ airport job. The SF firm want to hire me at about 20hrs/week and build up to full time as I helped them to develop business with the clients.
So I decided on the SF firm, and got them to commit to a minimum 200 hours over the next two months (at a decent pay rate), and I think I can make things work out such that the position will be full time and permanent by Feb. 1st.
It was tough because the other firm was doing some very advanced stuff. I would have liked to have been part of it, but was feeling like I might not have been technologically savvy enough to handle some of what they were working on. Very advanced CAD to Oracle to Web interface stuff. Very cool, and things I have thought about for years. But for now I am choosing the work I know I can excel at.
The annoying news is that I have a cold. My head is stuffed up and I have a sore throat. The air on the plane down to LA was really dry (Oh, did I mention that the LA firm flew me down for an interview yesterday?) Between getting up really early, dealing with way too many people, and not sleeping well, and then all the travel stress as well, I am not too surprised. But it is not going to make Thanksgiving as enjoyable. But I will still have something to be thankful for.
