Never, ever do this...

I finished my 2001 taxes (yup, the date is correct there) with a raging migraine. The state has been sending me dire messages saying I owe them money (which I knew I didn't). I did 2002 a few months ago when they started bugging me about owing them. Mixing mentally taxing and frustrating tasks with mentally debilitating and painful health issues is not a good idea. My head hurts and I'm going to bed soon.
On the other hand, it looks like we will be getting back a decent return for 2001, and I haven't even started on 2003 yet...

Date: 2004-01-29 08:33 pm (UTC)I sympathize. In the midst of everything last week, we were also dealing with our 2002 State Taxes. Somehow, they got the idea that we owed them $12K. We KNEW it couldn't be right, because they were listing our withholding as -$1K or so. Yes, a negative number. After much protestation and going around the block, Akien looked up the taxes on the computer, and found that it seems that the State has SOMEHOW mixed up our 2001 and 2002 income, and possibly the whole return. It's still not cleared up.
Oh, and our e-file of the 2002 Federal return never made it to them. And the hardcopy that we sent in October ALSO got lost.
WHY are we paying taxes again?
