I am posting from my new Treo with Hblogger to see how well it works. I have figured out a number of things and installed a lot of software. I have also figured out how to hack the BT connection so I can use it as a modem for my laptop. Pretty nifty!

So what's the hack for using it as a modem? I wanna do it, too!

Okay - it looks like I have it set up properly, but I may not have a plan that allows it. Do you use Cingular, and if so, what plan do you have that allows it. I can make the laptop and phone go through the motions, but it gets denied in the end, I'm pretty sure from Cingular's end.

Thanks! Now I have to decide if I want to pay for this, if that's what it takes ... uh oh! ;)

Okay - I did a bit of searching myself, and there seems to be more than one set of connection parameters out there for Cingular. I wonder if I just need to stumble on the magic combination. It apparently uses the already existing data plan, I think, which I have.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] cyan_blue uses Cingular, and her phone came preconfigured for DUN. At least, the option was available. I did not verify that the login of from the shadowmite page worked. It is possible you have to use your own login info (whatever they provide you with for accessing services). I am not sure, since I use Verizon. Trhe other thing to make sure of is that there is no conflict between the BT sync virtual port and the virtualt port used for the DUN. That took me a bit, and I have to disable the DUN for the BT hotsync to work, even though they are using differnet ports. I wonder if the Treo 700 is different?

Anyway, a better resource for stuff like this is [livejournal.com profile] princeofwands who was very helpful to me in going through the issues until I figured it out.

Hmmm... okay. And yes, I didn't need the patch, I was already configured for it. I wonder if it's a port conflict thingee. I'm in the sucky situation of having trouble testing in the house, because I do NOT get reliable signal in my own home. It seems that the login for Cingular is standard for all users, not individual. But what the standard is, well, that may not be well documented ;)

I'll ping POW if I can't figure it out soon - you got me on the right track, for sure!
